The grey water is allowed to pass through the tank and out into the underground drain field lines in your yard. But aside from these non organic materials finding their way into your tank there are other causes of common septic system issues. This however is not true. Septic tanks gradually fill with solid waste.

A lot of the common septic tank problems are caused by things that should not be entering your septic tank through the toilet kitchen sink or garbage disposal unit in the first place. These issues usually signal a clogged drain or full septic tank. Most common septic tank drainage problems and failures are due to the drainage field and not to the septic tank itself. Many people with septic system problems such as odor slow draining sinks and tubs gurgling pipes backups and sewage water ponding in their yard mistakenly assume the cause of these issues is their septic tank.

However if drain field pipes become clogged this issue could back up the rest of the system. These soakaways are for roof water only and are illegal for sewage effluent. A septic tank soakaway is a drainfield of perforated pies laid in paralell trenches on 300mm of washed drainage stone. Once the tank is full of solid waste you may experience sewage backups in the toilets or slow drains in tubs and sinks.

The most common cause of septic system problems and failure is their septic system absorption component more commonly known as a drainfield becoming. Blockages causing flooding within the system including roots blocking pipes. The frequency of pumping depends on a few factors. There is one thing certain about a septic tank drainage field it will at some stage fail.

Problems with flushing or slow drainage could mean that there is a block in one of the pipes.
